What to write about

A figure looks wrong

This is the message we most want. If a rate has changed, a bracket has moved, or a state rule is described incorrectly, tell us. It helps enormously if you include the state, the tax year, and the inputs you used (gross earnings, business miles, filing status), and say what you expected instead. We will check it against the published source and correct it.

A state guide is inaccurate

The twelve state pages make specific factual claims about each jurisdiction’s rates and filing rules. If one is out of date or wrong, say which sentence and we will fix it. Please note that the state figures other than California and New York are deliberately single planning rates rather than full bracket models — that is documented on How we calculate, and is not a bug.

The calculator will not load, or a number disappeared

Check whether JavaScript is enabled, and try a hard refresh. If it still fails, tell us your browser and device. Screenshots are welcome. If a field came back empty, note that the calculator remembers your entries in your browser’s local storage — the Privacy Policy explains how to clear them, and Reset inputs clears them in one click.

Privacy questions or a data request

Ask away, but read this first, because it will almost certainly answer it: we hold no personal data about you. There is no account, no submission, and no server that receives your figures. Your inputs are stored in your own browser and never transmitted, so there is nothing on our side to export or delete. Google advertising on this site is covered separately in the Privacy Policy, including the links to control personalised advertising.

Send it to the same address with a clear subject line and a real reply address. Note the licensing position before asking to redeploy this calculator: it is proprietary software and mirroring it on another domain is not permitted. See the Terms of Use.

What we cannot do

We cannot tell you what you owe. We are not accountants or tax professionals, and this tool is not a substitute for advice about your actual situation. We cannot review your return, advise on an audit, or give an opinion on a specific deduction. For that, talk to a licensed tax professional or the IRS directly — see the Disclaimer.

Response time

This is a small operation, so replies are not instant. We read everything and we prioritise substantive corrections about tax figures over general enquiries.
